Artist’s Statement

I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the mid 1980s.  Although my work mostly focuses on internalized issues and thought, the external circumstances surrounding the national and local cultural narratives through out my life still subtly shines through in a light hearted nostalgic manner.  My sometimes childlike approach to photography is a subconscious manifestation of my internalized responses to my past external circumstances.  When I make an image I tend to either take an absurdist approach, focusing only on the image making process and the aesthetic, or a more conceptual approach where I divert my attention solely to the abstract and theoretical aspects of the image.  I do not think these two approaches are mutually exclusive.  It is the connection between these seemingly different approaches that helps me simply express the most complex aspects of my stream of consciousness I aim to articulate through my images.
